Whom Do You Fear?

Why do Christians live in fear, me included? Is it because we may lose our job, our family, or our possessions? Remember, as Christians, Jesus told us we don’t have to fear anything. Psalm 27:1 says, The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid? First, Jesus is my Light and my salvation. Jesus is your light in a cold and dark world. Remember that. He can be your lighthouse, to guide you to safety. He is there to light your way, but also to light any obstacles that would be in your way.

Then He is your salvation. Did you know once you get saved, you are saved no matter what you do? Nothing on this earth could take you out of the family of God. Then the psalmist asks a question, whom shall I fear? If Jesus is your Light and salvation, how should you fear? The answer: no one. There is no one on this earth that is bigger than God. Whatever you are going through, no matter how big or small, Jesus can handle it.

Let’s dive into the second part of the verse. The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? The Oxford Dictionary defines stronghold as a place that’s fortified to protect it against attack. So God protects you against attacks of the devil or a circumstance. Now I know what you may think. If God protects us from attacks, why do we go through bad times in our life? It is to help us grow as a Christian and in our faith. The psalmist asks the same question again, of whom shall I be afraid? Again, I give you the same answer. No one should be afraid if you’re a Christian.

So my challenge to you and me, memorize this verse; so the next time you fear something in your life, you will be ready to guard yourself.

  1. Thank You,

I enjoyed your post and the reminder when I am feeling fearful put my fears in Gods hands, God has improved my life and taken care of me better than I could take care of myself.

  2. Thank You,
I used to be fearful of everything, even the most simple things gave me fear always thinking what if this happens or that happens.
Since giving all my fears to God I am much happier and less fearful of the future, everyone should give their fears and life in Gods hands.

  4. I do like how you have broken down and explained this verse as it’s very encouraging, I have actually memorised this verse for it is one of my favourites.

I do like to quote it from time to time as I find it really uplifting and it does help to deal with any fear that I may have.

I think that quoting the Word of God regularly is a great habit for all believers to get into, as it can really encourage in times of need.

  5. The meaning of this scripture is so important, but yet when we’re fearful of something it’s so hard to remember! Fear is definitely a human tendency that takes a lot of work to overcome. But once we overcome fear, it’s as though nothing can stop us and a big weight is lifted off our shoulders. Thanks for the great reminder and meaning of this scripture!

    1. Thank you Elsa, that is so true that in the middle of fearing something, we forget that we don’t need to fear anything.
